All About Baby Boutique and Education Center
All About Baby Boutique and Education Center, located in Downtown Greensboro, is the Triad’s only cloth diaper store and one the few businesses of its kind in North Carolina. The business is located on the corner of Spring Garden and Blandwood Avenue at 410 Blandwood Avenue. All About Baby is in a charming restored bungalow with ample free customer parking onsite, providing a welcoming environment for the boutique and education center.
The business opened in November 2010 and is owned by Priscilla LeCompte and Sheresa Lacey. Priscilla LeCompte says that they really enjoy being downtown because there is always a lot going on. The education center hosts a variety of free and fee-paid classes each month. Free Saturday classes include “Baby Wearing 101” for cloth diaper baby wearers and “Cloth Diaper 101” to provide an overview different types of cloth diapers, how launder the diapers, and tips for using cloth diapers. The business also offers classes on baby sleeping solutions, nursing, and infant and child CPR. In addition, All About Baby Boutique has a lactation consultant and breastfeeding support groups to help new mothers connect with each other. In addition, the store has natural products for babies and moms and several types of baby carriers.
According to Priscilla LeCompte, cloth diapers can less expensive than disposable diapers – typically between $1,000 to $2,000 a year. Another benefit, according to LeCompte is that children in cloth diapers usually potty train quicker than those using disposable diapers. Most cloth diapers fit babies from the time they are 8 pounds until the time that they are potty trained. For babies under 8 pounds, All About Baby can provide newborn cloth diapers for the transitional time until a baby reaches 8 pounds and fits into the “one-size” diapers. Also, All About Baby Boutique rents trial cloth diapers for families trying to decide on the type of cloth diaper to use.
Priscilla LeCompte started All About Baby because she was a new mom who wanted to use cloth diapers on her daughter, but was unable to find a shop where she could touch and feel the different types of diapers or learn how to use them. She notes, “It was all trial and error.” LeCompte’s goal at All About Baby is “to provide people with education about cloth diapers and other baby products and to provide customers a place to easily find those products.”
All About Baby Boutique also offers a laundering diaper service. All About Baby Boutique is open Tuesday through Saturday, 11am to 5pm, and the Educational Center offers classes most days.
