The Greensboro Amtrak Station, located in Downtown Greensboro and is served by three passenger trains: the Crescent, Carolinian and Piedmont. Originally built in 1927 as the Greensboro Southern Railway Depot. It was donated to the city in 1978, a year before the Southern Railroad finally ceased its passenger service. It wasn't reopened to the public until October 1, 2005. Of the 16 North Carolina stations served by Amtrak, Greensboro was the third-busiest in 2010, boarding or detraining an average of approximately 290 passengers daily.
